"Puttin' On the Ritz" is a song written by Irving Berlin. He wrote it in May 1927. Timeless.

At the end of the song, my audience were my awesome backup singers. Listen for it.

For the film Blue Skies (1946), where it was performed by Fred Astaire, Berlin revised the lyrics, originally written to describe flashy styles of not-so affluent types, to apply to affluent folks strutting "up and down Park Avenue".

In 1982 singer Taco released a synthpop cover version of "Puttin' On the Ritz" as a single. The single was aided by its hugely popular music video (of which there are two versions) which includes a tap dance solo in honor of the late Fred Astaire.

I loved having my audience at the concert that night sing with me on the ending of this song. They were so willing and easy to conduct! I loved it!

Lyrics

If your blue and you don't know where to go to
why don't you go
where fashion sits
Puttin' on the Ritz.

Different types of who wear a day coat pants with stripes and cut away coats perfect fits
Puttin' on the Ritz.

Dressed up like a million dollar trooper
Trying hard to look like Gary Cooper
Super-Duper

Come lets mix where Rockafellers
walk with sticks or umbrellas
in their mits
Puttin' on the Ritz.

Have you seen the well to do
Up and down Park Avenue
On that famous through fare
With their noses in the air
High hats and narrow collars
White spats and lots of dollars
Spending every dime
For a wonderful time.

If your blue and you don't know where to go to
why don't you go where fashion sits
Puttin' on the Ritz.

Different types of wear all day coat pants
with stripes and cut away coats for perfect fits
Puttin' on the Ritz.

Dressed up like a million dollar trooper
Trying hard to look like Gary Cooper
Super-Duper

Come lets mix where Rockafellers
walk with sticks or umbrellas
in their mits
Puttin' on the Ritz.

Dressed up like a million dollar trooper
Trying hard to look like Gary Cooper
Super-Duper

If your blue and you don't know where to go to
why don't you go where fashion sits
Puttin' on the Ritz.
Puttin' on the Ritz.
Puttin' on the Ritz.
Puttin' on the Ritz.

Move, I want ya to move
Got to dance
Got a dance

If your blue and you don't know where to go to
why don't you go where fashion sits
Puttin' on the Ritz.
Puttin' on the Ritz.
